01/10/2007 00:26:10 Alert
Hi Peter,
Last week, I'd performed a file Import of 2.5 GB of files and at first, it appeared that everything worked fine. Today, I attempted to add a photo to a text/html module on our site, and to my suprise, when I clicked the Rich Text icon to add an image, I got the following error:

"A critical error has occurred. Directory 'C:\Inetpub\vhosts\domain_name\httpdocs\Portals\0\DMX\Contract Files' does not exist. Failed to start monitoring file changes."

"Contract Files" is the name of the root folder of all the files that I'd imported. This folder was *never* inside the DMX folder because I'd uploaded all these files to a completely seperate folder and simply pointed to that folder when I did my Import. As a test, I added an empty folder titled "Contract Files" inside the DMX folder, but then got an error message looking for a next level folder.

Thinking that I could go to the File Manager under the Admin tab to upload my files, I then encountered this error:

"
An error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.PageLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Security.Permissions.Controls.FolderPermissionsGrid.SaveViewState() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Control.SaveViewStateRecursive() at System.Web.UI.Page.SaveAllState() at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---"

Any ideas on what's going on here?

Dave,
Please verify the following for me:
1. What is the setting for 'repository' in your DMX installation?
2. What is the setting for monthly/yearly subdirs in DMX?
3. Check a number of imported files in DMX_Entries and tell me what the typical value is in the field 'Entry'.

Hi Peter,
1. The Repository is set to "Default ('DMX' under Portal directory)"
2. Sub directories set to "None"
3. Not sure where to find this. Do I need to look in the SQL database for this? I'm having some remote connection issues with my ISP and I can't connect right now.

3. Yes, it is in the SQL db. Run the following on host > SQL:
SELECT TOP 10 * FROM DMX_Entries

Thanks. Here are a few "Entry" values for files that I Imported:

file_20070105_081410_TemWw_0.doc
file_20070105_081410_NTCKK_0.doc

OK, so that looks fine. Looking through your original post I think I overlooked some parts. You're saying you're trying to add a picture to a text/html module. I presume this is just a text/html block somewhere on your DNN site. The documents stored in DMX are obfuscated and renamed to make sure they cannot be referenced directly. So I guess my question is: how come you're browsing to the DMX repository when adding an image?

That's one of the weird things - I'm *not* browsing to the DMX repository. In the recent past, whenever I'd add an image in a text/html module, the File Manager would take me to the root folder of my portal. The only reason I suspect that DMX might have something to do with this is because of that first error I listed above. Now, when I click the Add Image button in the text/html rich text editor, instead of a popup window with the File Manager showing the /Portals/PortalNumber/ folder, the popup defaults to the home page of my site, showing only that error message.

Dave,
Can you try and take this up with the authors of the editor? I think the error is not actually occurring inside DMX, but in your editor (presumable FTB). Try submitting this to the core forums and I'd be greatful if you could report back if you find the answer to this.

Peter,
I agree, I don't think that the error is occuring inside DMX, but the initial error led me to possibly think that something happened during the Import.

Question: Does DMX ever create a virtual folder titled "Site" for any reason? I was just looking at my site through the Plesk control panel PowerDNN provides, and there is a virtual folder called "Site" that is linked to non-existant physical folders. I have to believe that this is somehow related to the problem I'm having.

Nope, not DMX. And most certainly no virtual directories ...

Yeah, I talked to PowerDNN yesterday and that virtual folder was something completely different.

I'll keep you posted on any further developments.

Hi Peter,
PowerDNN has determined that the error I am receiving has nothing to do with DMX, but rather with the way that DNN keeps an internal listing of all the files in the filesystem with its site. We're still not sure why it's looking for files that never existed in the place its looking for them, but its safe to say that this is not a DMX issue.
