09/15/2008 09:34:04 Alert

Hi everyone,

Today the latest version of DMX was released: 04.03.02. It includes the following changes:

Fix: MailMe token replace error fixed
Fix: RSS feed now uses email address in author field to conform to standard
Enhancement: Link to localization packs on Main Options page and Admin Menu
Enhancement: Option to limit quick default search to Title only instead of Title, Keywords and Contents
Fix: new attempt to fix lost settings on some portals
Fix: notifications are also sent to role ID 0 (by default this is the Administrators role of portal 0)
Enhancement: In debug mode all emails are copied to portals/_default/DMX/Log directory
Fix: People with email clients that cannot read mime messages now also see the message
Fix: Made move/copy code less prone to errors

The latter bug was particularly nasty. We believe customers on 04.03.00 and 04.03.01 are prone to this and should certainly upgrade. Under circumstances, moving a folder can result in a hard delete of the folder being moved.

Kind regards,

Peter Donker

When support for BIG files is going to be ready, still not working for me on 4.03.02?

Are you still getting Memory Exceptions?

Hi Peter, intalled update. Mailme and everything else is working fine now.

I'm a bit confused at your RSS feed change though, as I am now getting the generic host email address appearing in all the (former) 'Author' fields in the RSS display. Presumably this is supposed to be the Authors email address, yes?

best regards,

simon

Hi Simon,

Yes, indeed. But there were 2 reasons for not doing it that way:
1. There is no hard link between the Author and a user in DNN. It is a plain text field. So there is no 100% reliable way to get an email address for the author (keep in mind this is not necessarily the uploader)
2. I consider email addresses somewhat private data. The host address is the most 'public' one of the site. I'd hesitate feeding out email addresses of users on to a feed. I feel the people designing the standard lived in the pre-spam era.

Hi Peter, ok I see where your coming from for not putting the authors email on there, but I think in terms of 'usefulness' to the user, I think just the knowing name of the author would be better ie. like it was before.

At least if they have a 'name' they could make enquiries as to how to get in touch with them if they really needed to.

I realise though that you have to look at 'the bigger picture' in terms of the RSS feed, its just unfortunate that that particular change doesn't quite suit our purpose, but its not a big deal - DMX is still the best document module out there, and we are very pleased with it.

best regards,

simon

Hi Simon,
The author is passed on in plain tekst in its own namespace. If you examine the actual feed that comes out of DMX you'll notice most fields are there but in their own namespace (so not to conflict with RSS standard). You'd need your own XSL to transform it though. The regular Newsfeeds module is unaware of any extensions.

Potentially very silly question coming up.

Can I just upgrade my version which is 4.02.01 to 04.03.02 by just re-adding the module to the site.
And will my license still work ok?
