It is my understanding that DNN can allow someone in an Active Directory to sign on to DNN.  If I then grant permissions to a user in the active directory by using the Windows->Properties menu, will DMX recognize those permissions?  Or would those permissions have to be granted through the web interface?

DMX is embedded in DNN. If you have your DNN setup to accept AD authentication, users will also be logged in to DMX.
