Moving Office

It's almost time. Tomorrow we're moving the phone/ADSL to the new office. For 4 years we've been located in the peaceful vinyard village of Cormondrèche on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel. The view is terrific, but living in an apartment with a daughter that's almost 5 years old is becoming pretty incompatible with holding an office there as well. On top of that we have no 'outside space', i.e. no balcony or terrace to get out. So for 2 years now we have been looking around to see if we could find something that would preserve the view, but would offer a more comfortable space for both my family and my office. It turns out this is quite impossible in the direct surroundings. Unless you're a millionaire, you'll have a hard time finding something like that. We looked at existing places, 'projects', or just land. We looked at buying and renting. It is a complete nightmare. So when we discovered a chalet high up the mountain with the magic combination (view, space, price) we jumped to it.

We'll be moving to Tête-de-Ran in the next couple of days. The timing of this move was not perfect with the launch of DMX 4 and all, but in life opportunities don't always come at the convenient time. You'll just have to make do. We broke off our summer holiday to arrange the deal and the autumn break will be spent getting installed. The house is at over 1300 m altitude and we have been warned by many that this is not going to be easy when the snow comes. But hey, we love snow, ok. I'm a part time ski instructor in winter. I can handle it. Or so I think as autumn starts ...

We did inform about ADSL with Swisscom and a test was done before we signed. ADSL should be fine up there. Tomorrow they're going to cut off the ADSL here in our old apartment and it should re-emerge up in our future house. Let's keep our fingers crossed, ok? If you don't hear from me, something went wrong and I'm yelling at some poor telecom maintenance engineer in my version of French ...
