    Peter,

I have noticed that if you change the Indexing Service Catalog it seems to change the security of catalog.wci folder in the DMX folder. Then you end up with errors in you file manager and on the settings page of all your modules.

Or this could be happening the setting up of the full-text search. Either way I have had it happen to me twice. Once I give catalog.wci Network Service full control of the folder all the errors go away.

Obviously I am running DNN on Server 2003 with SQL server 2000.

Thanks for that knowlegde Brandon. I've moved this to the search forum ... Can you elaborate on the changed security? The catalog.wci folder is the one holding the catalog file? I usually stick it somewhere outside the web document tree. I might have overlooked this because of that. What errors are then produced in DMX?

    Peter,

The folder goes from Network Service having full access rights to Network Service not being listed as having any rights.

I did keep it inside of the web document tree. I decided that I didn't need the extra security and that I wanted search also. I didn't notice any DMX errors. The errors I had were on all modules that access the files structure under the of the portal including obviously file manager. i.e. this ends up being all modules because of the icon file selection possibility.

    Brandon,

So if I read all this correctly the lesson is: do not put the catalog created by Indexing Service anywhere near the web document tree for it will change permissions if you change it?

    Peter,

I think the lesson is this. You need to document that when the catalog is created it will not inherit the permission of the tree. So the users need to give Network Service or ASP.Net (in an XP install) full permissions to the folder. It only happens on creation it doesn’t happen just because Indexing service writes to the folder.
