Hi Peter,

We are currently running DMX 3.5.6 under DNN 4.9.0.

We will be upgrading to the latest DNN 6.1.3 (Professional Edition). We know that DMX 3.5.6 is not compatible with that DNN version.

If we wanted to get DMX 6, can we upgrade our 3.5.6 or do we need to purchase a new DMX 6 license.

Please let me know what is the best way to get to DMX 6.

Also, does DMX 6 have any search integration with the SearchCrawler in DNN 6 Professional?

Thanks!

Hi Sam,

1. You'll need to purchase a new license.
2. DMX 6 will upgrade the data in your DMX 3. Follow instructions in the installation manual.
3. The search crawler in DNN PE is deeply flawed but will traverse the document tree if you set it to templated mode. The reason it is flawed is that it knows nothing of permissions. So if you run it as let's say Admin, then it sees all documents/site content for Admins and regular users searching for content will stumble on those results and get a nice NOT AUTHORIZED when they click the link. IMO this is not acceptable. But it is up to you if you wish to use it. It works.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your response and information on DNN PE's SearchCrawler.

The reason why we were interested in PE's SearchCrawler was because we found some deficiencies in DMX 3's fulltext search capability.

1. Some of the search results were missing when we searched using certain keywords.

2. Search results do not highlight the document content that corresponds to search criteria.

Is folder security the only flaw you've identified with PE's SearchCrawler?

Does DMX 6 address issues 1 and 2 identified above?

Thank you for your help. We will most likely purchase a DMX 6 license regardless.

Best Regards,
Sam

DMX 6 implements the latest version of our search solution. We keep working to make it as perfect as it can be. I can't say specifically anything about 1 but I assume that is not an issue any longer. Regarding nr 2: that was implemented in DMX 6 and if you use DMX's search panel on DNN's Search Results page you'll get search highlighting. The highlighting is not (yet) in the DMX Ajax UI itself.
