We have spent about 3 weeks trying to setup and configure the DMX module on the assumption that it supports the ability to edit an excel document online similar to the process for managing a google doc.

We can successfully setup the webdav so that an authorised editor can download the excel document, edit it and easy re-upload it again, and in do soing create a new version.

But try as we might we cannot set the doc up so that you edit directly on the server and save changes like you would if editing a google doc, thus avoiding the need to keep local copies.

Should we be able to do this? Or have we totally misunderstood the capability of this module?

Any help in understanding appreciated.

Of note - we have configured server to allow webdav as per installation instructions. We also note webdav only works well with XP platform and has limitations with vista and win7 platforms.

No, WebDAV is not how Google docs work. Google docs has the editing software built as browser software. WebDAV opens a conduit through which WebDAV enabled client software can access documents on the server (not the way Google Docs does this but in fact how MS Sharepoint does things). With Google docs you don't need any other software on your client than a browser. The "Excel" you see is actually a Google program that is entirely programmed in Javascript etc and works in most browsers. With WebDAV you need Microsoft Excel installed on the client PC. The browser kicks the Excel program to start and open the document through the corridor that it created. It requires careful adjustments on both the server and client side which I've tried to describe in the installation manual and the WebDAV manual on the Help menu of the module. We use WebDAV regularly with Win7.
