    Hi,
I intend to offer the DMX pro module to my clients and hence have few questions.
I could not find the specific forum for this post so I selected this one as default.

    1. Light vs. Pro - where can I find z comparison between the two? For example, I use the light now for testing and cannot find the versioning feature or how it works. doesn't it available in the light? what else does not?
    2. activation - I must have a demo for the clients to show them the nodule in work before they buy it, does it mean I'll have to purchase a license for my demo site as well as for the clients? Is there a mechanism for resellers for that matter?
    3. The files location - What if I change the file location after uploading some files to the model? are they all stay in the old location? or what...?
    4. File names in the server - what is the reason the files appear with no extension and the name is changed in the storage location? how do I overcome the gibberish file names in the server for none Latin language? (the files appear in gibberish in the "save as.." pop up.

I tried to get the answers through the forums but they were not very helpful.

    Thanks,
    Yehuda

    Yehuda,
    1. Lite is the v 1 of DMX. DMX 3 has added the following features: search, categorization, subscription/notification, flexible data model to allow module addons to change behavior of module. Apart from these added features, I believe the UI is a marked improvement as well.
    2. You can always demo locally as it does not require activation if called through http://localhost/etc.
    3. The location can be changed at all times as long as (1) you move ALL the existing files, and (2) you leave any subfolder structures intact. DMX uses a 'base folder' for storage that can be changed.
    4. One basic prerequsite for a document management system is separating file names from the storage as new versions may have the same file name but we don't want to overwrite existing content. Secondly, the renaming of files serves security (obfuscation and prevention from download). The original filename is placed in the stream as you click download, so I'm not sure what the gibberish is you're referring to.
    Regards,
    Peter

    Peter,
    Thanks for your detailed reply.
What about the versioning? why can't I find the way to upload a file and keep the old version? I could not find a reference to it in the manual.

    Thanks,
    Yehuda

The versioning works as follows: if you edit a document and decide to upload another document over it, a new version is created. DMX Lite also does this.
