    Hi Si,

Yes, great idea!! Here is what I think you should do:
    1. Make a system backup. You never know.
    2. Upgrade SQL server. It should be relatively straightforward following MS documentation. Get the new management studio app to examine your databases
    3. Check that the old DNN 3.2 site is still operational.
    4. Upgrade DNN. Download the Upgrade zip from dotnetnuke.com and copy the contents into your DNN directory. Use either 04.03.07 or 04.05.05.
    5. Verify that the installation is running DNN 4 correctly (call up a page with just some simple module(s) like Html)
    6. Buy DMX 4 (hehe) and read the installation manual!!
    7. Upgrade DMX by uploading DMX 4 over it (never uninstall DMX as it will destroy the data).
    8. Go to the run scripts page and click upgrade from DMX 3 to DMX 4.
    9. Verify that the new module is running by browsing DMX and downloading an item. If problems occur check the main DMX options. There is also a verification chapter in the installation manual.
    10. Activate the module
    Good luck,

Here is another approach I like. I did a clean install of sql2005, Dnn 04.05.05 on a new machine. If I install and activate the DMX 4 on my new machine, can I transfer all the documents from my old machine running dmx3 dnn 3.2 .  The document directory would be relatively easy. The question I have is can I execute your update scripts directly on my new sql 2005 server instance. This  solution seem way cleaner and I will not lose my production server.

    Hi Si,
You have to 'upgrade' your old installation for it to work. Many (complex) scripts are run to make sure the upgrade works. You cannot 'import' the old content that easy. So the simple answer to your question is 'no'.
