I have installed the DMX 4 TRIAL version and activated it successfully on my DNN site. But, the search functionality doesn’t seem to work; I always get zero result when I try to search a document. I have tried to re-index my portal so many times by running the script, but I still always get zero result when I do searching. And, I am not talking about the full-text searching (content searching), but this is about the basic searching (title, author, keyword, etc.). So, I am wondering: is the search functionality disabled in the TRIAL version? Does the DMX 4 search work out of the box or do we have to install another third party software/service in order to make it work?

Please advise!

Hi Yonathan,

There is no reason it should not work. Can you check the following:
1. Are there files under portals/0/DMX/Lucene/Index ?
2. Are you running medium trust?
Let me know to narrow this down.

Hi Peter,

1. Yes, I can see 4 files in that folder (portals/0/DMX/Lucene/Index), and 2 of them are CFS files.

2. If I can understand your question correctly, are you asking me if the security/privacy level of my browser is set to medium level? When I check it, the security was set to medium-high level, and the privacy is set to medium level.

Thanks!

I think now I understand what you mean with running medium trust. Is it about the security trust level in my web.config level? It was set to medium trust. And, I have tried to change it with Full trust, but it still has the same issue: the search result is still always zero (nothing).

HI, i am having the same issue. Unless you type the full name of the file, and search by File Title, the exact file will show up. Other than that, i can't get anything from search.

On the other hand, I think the search should be simple and user-friendly. User do not need to select searching criteria, and then it should search all data include file title, content, and meta data. Just like how it works on some other document managemnt s/w.

Well, I think mine is even worse: even though I type in the full name of the file and then search by original filename or title. The search result is still empty (I still get nothing). And, my feedback about the search feature (where we can search by fields/criteria) is that we like that kind of feature actually. It can eliminate the search results that we don’t need to see, and it can help the searching process to be faster. For example: if I just want to search an author with the name: John Doe, I can just select author criteria and then type in John Doe. And then, it supposes to give me all files with John Doe as their authors. But, anyway I understand everybody has different needs for this module. This is just my opinion.

If I can put my 2 cents  in?

I've been running 4.01 - 4.0.3 and trying a number areas from this thread to get search to work with no results.

But, I agree an advanced search should be very flexible. If you want a global search use the simple search/filter found on the main page. We did find it disconcerting when their was no search button with the field, but that was because the auto complete is not working because search is not working.

Did any of you try Luke to see what was stored in Lucene? It's described in the documentation as a way to debug search.

Hi Peter,

Would you please send me the documentation for troubleshooting the search? The only documentation for the Document Exchange 4 that I have found in your website is only for the installation. I have read it from the top to the bottom, but I can’t find the information about debugging/troubleshooting the search. So, please send me the documentation for debugging the search. Or, please let me know where I can download it.

Thanks!

When you've installed the module you'll find it under Help > Search on the DMX menu.

I have the same problem with searching filenames. In Luke it´s the same problem. I can search all the other field types like author and keywords.

But searching for originalname:p* returns without a positiv result.

In the overview top ranking originalname I see all my file starting with p*.

Hi Mark,

So what you're saying is that even though you see the originalfilename stored using Luke, you cannot find it using either DMX or Luke?

Mark,

It could be because the original filename is not tokenized for indexing. I'll make a note of this and see about changing this. If this is changed you'll need to 're-index' the portal/installation on the Run Scripts page.
