I've got the latest DMX 4 installed and when a person adds a file item to a folder, it displays security information correctly on the permissions page.  When they leave the default permissions (inherited from the folder's permissions) intact and click finish, it does not correctly apply the settings to the file.

It looks correct when it's edited, but only truly works this way.  Add new file, leave default settings, finish.  Edit document, click finish.  Then and only then does the security actually apply correctly,  It's almost like the default folder settings dont propagate to the files within. I have gone and reindexed, cleared the DNN cache, logged out/in. and reset the application.

Any thoughts?

Jason,

I've tried to replicate but haven't been able to find anything unusual. My test:
1. Create a folder that has as permissions ADD Admin/Editor, EDIT Admin, VIEW Admin/Editor
2. Login as Editor. Go to folder, add Word doc. On meta data screen hit Finish
3. Result Permissions: EDIT: Admin/Editor, VIEW: Admin/Editor.

Note the following about the inheritance of permissions:

1. From folder to document:
VIEW -> VIEW
ADD -> EDIT
APPROVE -> APPROVE
EDIT - nothing is done with edit permissions of folder

2. From folder to folder:
VIEW -> VIEW
ADD -> ADD
EDIT -> EDIT
APPROVE -> APPROVE
(i.e. a straight copy)

Can you be more specific about what you found and how I can reproduce this?

Peter

Hi Jason,

I repeated the experiment on your installation. Same result. I used admin and 'employee'. You should find the text.txt document with both edit and view rights for both these roles. The document was uploaded using the DMX web interface and clicking Finish on the screen with the title, author, etc.
