Hi Peter,

We are in the process of reorganizing our file structure.  I'm curious to know if there is an easy way to move existing documents and folders around?  For example can I take document 1 from Folder 1 and easily move it to Folder 2 wiht out having to download and re-upload the documents? And is there an easy way to import documents from a 3.x install to a 4.x installation wihtout having to re add them?

If SQL is requried on either of thes issues that is a non issue.

Thanks,

Arick

Hi Arick,

The intended way is this: (1) put stuff on the clipboard, (2) go to the destination folder and then (3) on the folder menu select 'Move' or 'Copy' from the clipboard submenu. However, some people have reported issues so this is under investigation.

By SQL it is not very hard to do as each and every document is in DMX_Entries and has a 'CollectionId' pointing to its parent. So if you change that value, the item will move around. If you're faced with a whole reorganization and you fear any mishaps, you can use this to craft some SQL as well.

Finally you can use WebDAV. Then you open your DMX in Windows Explorer and drag and drop.

About DMX 3 to 4: the module upgrades existing DMX 3 installations. Read more about that in the installation manual. There is no 'move' from one DNN to another. DMX ties in with users and roles and these are not the same between DNN installations or portals. This makes any export/import very error-prone.
