Hi Peter,

I have rencently implemented strict security on a particular folder structure inside my portal.  On this folder structure I have granted specific security roles Add/Edit premissions but didn't select view.  In doing so I have discovered that users who have the ability to add and edit do not by default have the ability to view.  I'm curious to know why you do not recurvisley grant view on Add/Edit premissions to a folder.  If they are unable to find the folder how can they add/edit documents in that folder?  I will be adding view premissions to my folders today but it still dosen't make much sense why they would not inherit view when granted add/edit.

Thanks,

Arick

Hi Arick,

There is no specific reason. The technical story is that permissions are opaque to the application and can be indefinitely extended. I believe the same is true for DNN as well (try setting edit roles to a module but not view roles). So the application does not know the relationship between EDIT and VIEW and does not know it's pointless to have one without the other. I'm not sure if this will be changed one day as the use case is not common and technically it is not a trivial change you're asking. If more people call in with this it might trigger a change.
