Hi,

Last week we installed DMX 5.0.2 in a DNN test environment. Since this installation we noticed over 600 warning events in de IIS servers application event log. The error is "An unhandled exception has occured", process is w3wp.exe and the application path points to our DNN test environment. The exeption message is "Path PROPFIND is forbidden". These events occur exactly every 5 minutes. The only DNN task that has a 5 minute schedule is DMX's ScheduledTask.

We followed the installation manual (of course) and I double checked that the verb "PROPFIND" is in de verb list of the .axd extention on the IIS server.

Please advice.

Best regards, Theo

PS. I just discovered that there is also a problem with WEBDAV. I know there's a different forum for that, but maybe the problem is related. When I "open in Word" a Word document the document is opened in read-only mode. I've read all related posts in the WEBDAV forum and I'm pretty sure all settings are correct (IIS authentication, directory security, installation settings, client ActiveX settings etc.)

We are using DNN 4.9.2 with AD authentication, but I've also tried with a "normal" DNN user and even with AD authentication disabled. I'm using a Vista SP1 client, but see the same effect on a XP SP3 client. The server is 2003, IIS6 and SQL 2005

Kind regards, Theo

Hi Theo,

PROPFIND is a regular WebDAV command. Vista does a PROPFIND call to the root of the site (i.e. '/'). This is why you need the wildcard handler described in the installation manual. Do you have that in place? Note also that WebDAV will not work if your DNN is in some subfolder of the website. So instead of http://www.mycompany.com/mydnnsite/etc, it will work if that is changed to http://mydnnsite.mycompany.com for instance. What is your setup?

Hi Peter,

Yes, the executable path of the .axd application extention is inserted in the wildcard application maps. I checked the setup again against the pictures in the installation manual

The DNN portal is an intranet website, so it is installed on a internal web server. It's the default website in IIS using the default port 80 in the default application pool. There are no other sites or virtual directories defined on that server. The URL of the home page has the form: http://internalserver

Kind regards, Theo

"Note also that WebDAV will not work if your DNN is in some subfolder of the website..."

Hi Peter,

If the above is the case then it should make it's way into the DMX installation manual...

Just as an observation, we had dmx 4 working as a subfolder site with full webDAV functionality (DNN4.8.3), along with the EasyAD module for AD integration. The authentication issues crept in with the upgrade to DMX 5.0.02 to the extent that it is now impossible to create new folders with WebDAV but everything else works fine (as long as you're prepared to ignore the overwrite warning dialog boxes!).

Hi Keith,
Can you tell me which version of DMX 4 that was?

Hi Peter,

The previous version of DMX was 04.02.03.

Hope this helps...

Hi Peter,

Did you have a chance to look at the unhandled execption and WEBDAV problems I described earlier?

Regards, Theo

Hi Theo,

I have uncovered one issue with WebDAV in DMX 05.00.02 which is that the lock is not correct when opening a document. This could be the reason that a document opens read only. This has been fixed yesterday and will be rolled out in an update very soon.
Regarding the 5 minute repeating WebDAV error: I can't replicate that.

Hi Peter,

Ok, that is good news! I'll be looking out for the update.
In the mean time we did a re-install of our DNN test environment. The Webdav errors have disappeared.

Hi Peter,

I just installed version 05.00.03 and WEBDAV works. No more "(read-only)".

Thanks!

Theo
