Good day,

I have installed the trial copy of Document Exchange 5 and am looking for some clarification.  When I enable "view" only permissions the users don't get the "Open in Word" menu item after they right-click the document.  If I enable the "edit" permission they get the "Open in Word" menu item, but, of course, can edit the document.  Is this how it works?  Am I missing something?  I would like for them to be able to open the document in its native format (Word for a MS Word document, Excel for an Excel Spreadsheet, etc) and print it off, or even perhaps change it and save it somewhere else, while leaving the posted copy intact and unchanged.

Am I able to set it up in this manner?

I have been looking for a module like this for a long time and hate to give up on it!

Thanks,

- Joe

Hi Joe,

Yes, this is how it is designed. Opening is done by for instance double clicking the document or selecting download then 'open'. When you 'Open in Word' you really are opening and locking the document. I'll look into having this also for read-only content.

Update: this issue has been put on hold. It is not that easy. The user will get an authentication challenge as webdav assumes you're trying to edit. It is not a good moment to change this behavior as it potentially impacts many users.
