I am using version 5.01.03 and am having problems doing a full text search on the contents of documents which are primarily pdf. I read through the help section and using Luke was able to review my indexes which appear to be ok. I can verify that the contents of each document have been loaded and when I perform queries I do get the expected results in Luke. I did have to change the default field property in Luke to get it to search the contents field rather than the author field.

Problem is I can't get search results in the actual module. What do I need to look at? Is there a place to configure the default field in DMX?

Hi Chris,

Have you tried reindexing? There's a script on the Admin > Run Scripts page.

I did try to reindex but it did not change the results. It appears to be searching the title but not the contents.

Hi Chris,

Are you talking about the search panel you can optionally put on the Search Results page and searching using the DNN inbuilt search box, or through the main DMX UI?

DMX UI. It is the one accessed through the menu option Tools | Search.

Hi guys,

I'm running into the exact same issue. I can see that my files content are well indexed using Luke but the search engine (the one included in the main DMX UI) doesn't return any valid result.

It works for a few terms but not for all... Is there a character limitation somewhere?

DNN Community 5.01.04(3)
DMX 5.1.3

Thank for your help :)
Stéphane.

Hi Guys,

I haven't been able to replicate this (yet). But given that there will be an overhaul of this logic for DMX 5.2 then I hope it will solve this issue as well. DMX 5.2 should be out late November.

I am still having these issues after upgrading to 5.02.02. I verified the index in Luke and search runs fine in Luke. But not on site.

Good point Stéphane. Due to web limitations some characters may be lost. Did you guys search with regular ascii characters to test?

Chris: after a search the table DMX_SearchResults should show a bunch of (new) records. Does it do that?

DMX_SearchResults does change after each search.

For my testing I enter 'training' into the 1st tab on the search box with Title, Keywords & Contents selected along with Whole Repository. DMX_SearchResults looks like:

201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 15 0.9856677
201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 56 0.3663669

201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 100 0.320571035

201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 49 0.0429243073
201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 16 0.0354107469

201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 43 0.0286162049
201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 44 0.0286162049

201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 102 0.0202347133
NULL NULL NULL

6 Documents are returned in the results page.

I also have tested on the 2nd tab searching for 'training' in the title only. 6 Documents are still returned and DMX_SearchResults looks like:

201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 15 1
201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 56 1
201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 134 1

201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 100 0.87499994
201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 133 0.87499994
NULL NULL NULL

If I change the 2nd tab to search contents for 'training', no results are returned and DMX_SearchResults looks like:

201001223xtljtfx21351sexgpsznk55 15 0.738569856

Update - I know I confirmed this before but now my content fields are all blank so I think the issue is still in the iFilter installation. Sorry for the confusion.

I can start a new post if you like, but can you walk me through the process of installing the Adobe iFilter on a hosted web server? I use webhost4life.

Hi Chris,

I can't help with the iFilter installations. That is the domain of the hosting provider. When I installed it I just double clicked the download of Adobe and I was done. But I have a dedicated server.
