DMX 5.2.2

I'm wondering about any plans to implement qouta management. A really neat implementation can be reviewed at gleamtech's FileVista.

Thank you

Chris

Hi Chris,

There are no plans, no. How would you like to measure this? By the owner of the document? What happens when User A uploads a new version of a document originally uploaded by User B? Does that consume from User A's account, or User B?
Or did you mean a cap on a particular folder? Given you can create user folders, this would almost be the same. What happens to old versions of documents? Do they add up to the tally or not?

Hi Peter,

in fact, everything can be ruled.

- Quota could be enabled optionally by the admin on a folder basis

- To have it simple, quota counts any file a user is uploading, also multiple versions

- additionally quotas could be defined on a group basis

Hi Chris,

You see that quite quickly this gets very complex. The philosophy of DMX is to try to keep the core lean and as much as possible to keep special applications in extensions. The advantage is that you don't annoy users with tons of admin screens that they're not interested in. In fact, with all the functionality there already is, we get a significant amount of email from users who inadvertently start tweaking things they shouldn't. Every new feature is scrutinized for being 'simple to administer' and not dragging the application down in terms of performance.

Having said that, quota management would naturally fit best in the core. But the solution needs a lot more thought as you can see from the questions above.

Hi Peter,

thanks for the update. I hope to see the quota (happy with a basic & simple implementation) in a future revision.

No. Check the tracker item to the right of this screen.
