Hi there

Is it possible to do a search with DMX without having the standard DNN search module on the same search page? I figured out if I take away the standard search module, the search function breaks. If I click the search-button nothing happens as long as this module is missing. Is the standard search module in any case needed?

Thx

I'm not entirely sure what it is you're saying. But I'll presume you're referring to using DNN's inbuilt search textbox at the top of your screen and how that takes you to the "Search Results" page. On that page you can use a DMX in "search mode" (by selecting "search results" from the view control dropdown in the module's settings). The question then becomes the same as an FAQ: "can't DMX search results just show up in the DNN search results?"

The answer is "no" because the DNN search engine is insufficient to handle the complexity of DMX. DNN assumes ALL items in a single module are visible by the same permission set (set on the module's settings screen). This is not the case in DMX where every document has its own permission set.

I was basically referring the "Search Results" page, yes. And I have this page selected in the module's settings. If I have BOTH modules (DMX and DNN search) on that page, the DMX search works just fine. If I take away the DNN search and hit the search button after, nothing happens.

OK, that seems somewhat odd as the two modules (DNN Search Results and DMX) are unrelated. The removal of the DNN Search results module should still allow loading of the page. The querystring will still contain the search parameter (verify this). The querystring parameter is what DMX reacts to.

Did you set the control to load to Search in the DMX module settings? I guess so, but still good to ask here ...
