We are looking for a document management module that can accomodate tables in the 100,000+ size. We are an educational institution and will be putting in documents like .doc, .pdf, .txt, .png and .jpg. We anticipate that documents like these could total 35,000. Then we want to put into the table records from url links. And we might have another 75,000 or more of these. And if we are successful these numbers could grow. So the question we have is, what, if any, limitations on size does DMX have? If the answer is mostly performance related, at what level would this occur, and how serious does it get?

There are no limitations "built into" the module. So there is no set ceiling I can point to like "100000 documents". It depends on too many factors. We've done our best to make this module as scalable as possible and I've worked with installations with 100 K documents in it. But your DNN and server also play their part in the total solution.

If there is one thing I think you should do to scale well it is to avoid going wild with custom attributes. Other than that it can become cumbersome if you have let's say 100's of documents in a single folder. This is not unlike Windows. Care has been taken to not load in the complete document repository anywhere in code. But a single folder is displayed when you click on it.

Final tip: lots of users in lots of roles also weighs down the system. But this not only goes for DMX, it is also the case with DNN.
