I am running DMX 5.3.7 (in trial mode)

I created some fake users to add, edit and approve.

I added a few documents. Could not see any of them. Approved one. Was able to see it with all the users. This is all as I would expect.

What was not expected is many users, even users not associated with the DMX folder(s) received email notification the document was approved.

I had not/ have not made any changes to the Notifications Admin.

How do I control this behavior?

Why is it turned on by default?

If you do not select an approval role content is auto-approved. If you select one or more approval roles for a folder all new content will go through approval mechanism.

I am most concerned with the email notifications sent out. Especially to those not specifically given any permission in DMX.

Notifications go to those with permissions specified in the Notifications edit screen (Admin menu). So if you include for instance Registered Users as approve on a document then all registered users will get notified. AFAIK there are no notifications going to people who cannot access a document. There briefly was a version a while back but that was solved. Certainly 5.3.7 should not send any notifications to people who do not at least have view permission on an item.
