Hi Peter, When I first installed DMX on our site, I did not activate the Subdirectories option. We now have over 3600 files in the DMX folder, and our ISP has recommended that I turn on the Subdirectories option, as our site performance has started to take a hit from having that many files in one folder. What happens to all the files already uploaded if I now turn on this feature? Do they all stay in the same folder, and only subsequent files are put in subdirectories, or do all the existing files get organized into subdirectories? Any issues I should be aware of before I turn on this option, now that I already have so many files uploaded?

Dave, It is simple to repair. Go to the SQL server and look in the DMX_Entries table. You'll see the filenames under the field Entry. What you need to do is to run some query to insert a subfolder there. Something that links to the alphabetic order of the filename itself as this allows you to identify and move the files easily. What is important to remember is that the field Entry is a relative path to the physical file. So you could try to replace 'file_' with 'NewFolder\file_' for a number of records and then move those corresponding files. Peter

Thanks Peter. What would happen if I were to turn on Sub-folders without restructuring any of the current files? Would the current files stay as-is, and any additional documents would then be placed in sub-folders? Or would this break our library?

Dave, You can change any time you like without consequences to existing data. The subdir setting is only used during upload, not download. Peter
