    Hi Peter,

i don't know if anybody did the same request for this new feature. Maybe it is working right now ?!?

It would be great, if an Image could be uploaded besides the real document and could be displayed in the View-List. You know sometime one pictures is more than 1000 words...

    Regards,

    Holger

Yes, nice idea. There probably will be a thumbnail kind of functionality some time in the future.

    Peter,
we wanna build a technical Document-Management based on DMX. In this case, sometimes it is easier to display a little image which shows i.e. a 3-D-CAD JPG that shows a special detail as to describe the modeling tip. The user can than faster decide which document is the best for his issue. He has just to scroll through the gallery...

So it would be great if not only thumbnails of the orignial document is shown, but besides the document a further image could be uploaded for display in the list.
Maybe you can integrate both and user can descide if a thumbnail of the document, or a thumbnail of an additional image or no thumbnail should be shown.

I'm looking forward to find this feature in your great product !

    Holger,
That is *rather* specific. You would definitely need to prepare yourself to add this functionality yourself. The basis of the system is files and collections stacked in a portal-wide tree. This will probably remain like this forever. Linking between files (or uploading a second- or shadow file) is something which does not naturally fit in this. This is why it is safe to assume you would need to program this in a custom extension. There is a provision that you can make your own file type (like 'CAD drawing') to which you define a custom interface. You would then specify a second upload box etc and will take care of all the logic (i.e. is it valid to only upload the main file, etc). The display of the file list will then also have to be overridden to show the thumbnail.

    Peter,
i'm sorry to hear that. I thought there is no big thing for you to add an additional optional field in the meta-data of the document. In that case it is not a text property but an image.... So if the user upload something like that and the file list is defined to show this new field, everything should work fine.
Maybe some other guys will ask about such a feature, and you change your opinion

    thx

I always listen to (a sizeable portion of ...) my customers ;-)

But seriously: DMX is now being used in production around the globe in some pretty big intranets. If I make a change, I'd better be sure it is (1) a logical and desired feature, and (2) that it works. The more complex the intervention, the harder it is to achieve this. I've tried to explain that your request is (a) not sufficiently generic and (b) not technically trivial in my opinion to merit an intervention. Of course I could be wrong ... but that we will find out in due course

    Cheers,
    Peter

    Peter,
you are right, but maybe you can think about an optional thumbnail of the stored file in the filelist. The size of the thumbnail should be customized. In that we can use some collections as a gallery. And this would be a nice feature !
