    Hi Peter,

is there an option to prevent downloading a document if the file is locked through the DMX-property ? Maybe you can add another property like 'Prevent Download'....

    Holger,
Locked items are still visible (and henc downloadable) to others, they are just not changeable (i.e. no edit possibility). If you want to prevent download then remove view rights. Viewing a document = being abl to download it. There is no distinction between the two as it is not much use to offer just meta data to an audience.

    Peter,
i think it make sense to prevent a file from downloading for maintenance. The DMX is a centralized file store management. Some of the files - in our system - contain technical solutions. If someone detects an error in the solution, the responsible person could lock the file (incl. prevent downloading) to fix the bug in that solution file. It would be perfect, if the responsible person could also add a short description about the lock reason.

So if some of the users try to download that file, he gets the lock reason displayed and he knows that there is a solution file, but it is under maintenance and he has to come back again....

    Holger,
Although it makes sense in some instances to prevent download it is not the default desired behaviour. You can achieve this by making the item private, by the way, but then it is invisible. The philosophy behind DMX is 'what you see is what you are allowed to see'. So no collections or files to which you have no access. Conversely: if you can see it, you can download (i.e. really see) it.

    Hi Peter,

maybe you can think about an additional feature like Locked_for_Download. So the user can only view the meta data. In some circumstances it would be very helpful.

If you want to share approved documents over such a system there are reasons to temporarly lock a document for Downloading/Viewing.

    Thx. Holger
