I cannot figure out how to utilize Moderation of Content. I specified an approval role in the Options. Maybe the problem is I don't understand setting up of all the neccesary roles.

I have a page that All Users can view with a DMX module on it (v3.4.11).
I have roles set up for viewing certain files - no problem.
Only users with Administrator roles can see all the controls in order to upload files. And after uploading, it shows that the file is approved.

I've read the User and Admin documentation and searched the forums. Someone please explain or point me in the right direction.

    Thank you

    Hi Ken,
I'll try and shine some light on this. After setting a role for 'approval', that DMX module instance will, upon upload of a document, flag it as not approved (unless the uploader is in the approval role). That's the upload part. Now the viewing/download. An admin sees everything. Any other user sees the following: if not in the approver role the user sees the latest approved version of a document. If the user is an approver, then the last version is shown and he/she should see the approval button become active/visible.
Let me know if you feel you're not getting these results and I'll try to work through this with you. If it comes to it, you might have to show me the site and give me access. Send details by email (peter@bring2mind.net) to me and I'll try and help out.
    Kind regards,

Before I bother you with an email, let me clarify some details. Only Users with the Admin role can upload files. Other users do not see the controls to upload. Is this correct or should I be able to specify other roles to upload files? I think files are being automatically approved because my Admin User is uploading them even though this is not the Approver. (By the way, these are three unique User names but the accounts use the same name, email, and password so I can test everything. Surely this isn't the issue.)

    Hi Ken,

I've been able to check out the site in question.

You've installed DNN 04.00.02 from what I see. This is a really old platform and not even the most stable of the 04.00.x series. Until version 03.04.x DMX is compiled against DNN 04.00.03. So you need to be on that platform minimally.

If only admins can upload files, approval is no use as it is considered approved. Remember that in the DNN philosophy, the admin has irrevocable super rights on all content and is therefore assumed to be all-knowing etc. If you want to use approval the uploaders have to be regular users.

    Cheers,
    Peter

So if I upgrade my DNN version, I should expect that regular users would then have the ability to upload files, right? Is it possible to assign a role to users that will allow them to upload, therefore restricting regular users from anything other than downloading? Thank you.

    Ken,
The DNN update (my advice is to go to 04.03.07 at the least) is necessary to have the module running reliably at all. It has always been the case that regular users could upload files. Please read the manuals about using DMX. There's also a lot about DMX use in these forums.
