    Hi Peter,

Thanks for the help with categories - the temp host access is set to work until end of Jan... would you please tell me where to set/how to set the root DMX repository for the site - complicated by having child portals, which change frequently, for separate security access for project related users.

I installed the module on the parent DNN instalation. I first put the DMX module on a child portal (which you saw) and now need to add it to another child portal. But I am seeing two folders marked DMX - one is in Portals/default (but it is empty) and in Portals/7  - the site you helped with, quote 09-213, and after adding the module to the new site, another DMX folder in portals/10.

But wherever I put the folder of documents, I  have tried using the import facility but I think I am not specifying the correct path, nothing happens.

Looked in the manual and forums, but...

Does this not work with child portals?

    Thanks

    Hi Amanda,
I'm not sure what it is exactly that you're trying to achieve but you should note that content is strictly separated between portals.

ok, so that applies between parent and child portals then. thanks for confirming.

next part of the question, is when importing, the manual states to use standard windows notation fo rthe relative URL.  if there is a DMX folder in each child portal (ie in wwwroot/portals/10/0/...) on the hosted/remote webserver, what is the relative URL to use for the import utility?  I have tried using a definite URL (such as those I use in HTML for mass emails, and such as I used for the posting the screenshot graphic in a previous post) but this does not work.

    thanks.

    Hi Amanda,

Yes, between parent and child portals also. Currently DNN does not have a hierarchical portal mechanism although 'parent' and 'child' portals imply this. All portals are equal. DMX does not allow data to pass from one to the other.

When importing you use a regular Windows path (I don't think it mentions URL). Importing happens from a folder on your webserver or a share it can access. You cannot import from your client PC. In the text box you specify a path like 'D:\MyFiles' and DMX will try to read from that.

For the 'repository location' you use a path as well. But this is not what you're referring to, if you're interested in the import function.
