Hi Peter,

My 'test' users are confused by the options related to editing a file.

  • "Open in ..." makes sense by itself, but in relation to "Edit..." or "New Version...", the description suggests that it can't be modified.
  • "Edit..." suggests that the file is being edited when in reality it is the file attributes that are updated.

Can this be changed to "Edit in ..." and/or "Update attributes..."?  Or something else that helps delineate the purpose?

Thanks.

Scott

Hi Peter,

I'm curious as to the purpose of the 'Item' menu provided when right clicking on a file or folder.  It seems that I am presented with 'Item' no matter what I select.  If that is the case, is it possible to eliminate this extra menu option and show only the other menu options instead?

Thanks.

Scott

Yeah, the 'item' looks redundant. But in fact the menu is extensible and the idea is that more will follow here. Secondly, to preserve consistency the context menu and regular menu come from the same background operation. This also creates the extra top level node. For now we'll stick with it until we found a more elegant solution.

Hi Peter:

Lookin' better everyday.

Expanding on Scott's query, on Item menus. Download vs. Open in... I personally understand the difference, but it has been pointed out by my users that they are the same thing to them. More importantly because Download brings the file quicker they tend to use that. But this has a problem. When you download and then choose open and it is a Word file, Word opens with the file in it. Now type something and press save (^s); they think they have saved it. First the document does not save and no error message; then if you close the document now you have lost your edits. So, I like to suggest that Download bring the document down in "Read Only" format if possible. This would force a Save as.. in Word. Alternatively, only present the most appropriate available option.

E.g. If the users as Edit access only show Open in Word if WebDAV enabled or with View access Download

Thanx

Scott:

If you select more than one item and right click you get a different menu with different options.

Hi Laverne @21:25:
It's technically impossible what you're asking. Once a user downloads a document, it is no longer under my control. The user can do whatever he/she wants to do with it. Saving it saves it to temporary files. Not the best place. However, this is something that rests with admins to instruct users. Once outside the http stream from server to user, DMX is done ...
